Police Clearance is a government-issued document that reflects whether an individual is in the crime-related databases of the issuing authority.

In short, it can be given to anyone whether they have a criminal or criminal-related history or not.

It may indicate that the applicant has no record on file or that they have a record in the system and the status of that record.

There are two general types of police clearance that an individual applicant can get in the Philippines.

The first one is the traditional, physical-only appointment usually located in local governments’ municipal or city halls, manned by police staff.

The National Police Clearance System was launched in August of 2018 to allow for the online application of the document.

We will focus on this article’s faster and more efficient online police clearance.

FAQs

What if I miss my appointment?

As long as you have made your payment, you can still reschedule your appointment in the National Police Clearance System.

However, you cannot refund the amount if you still fail to go to the police station within 15 days.

Can I bring my payment to the police station if I forget to pay online?

No, you cannot pay at the police station if you did not pay online or over-the-counter before your appointment.

They cannot process your request, and you would need to pay first in the official channels and reschedule your appointment.

How do I know which police stations issue a National Police Clearance?

You can know which police station is available to issue the clearance by manually searching during the appointment process in the NCPS.

You can choose any participating police station, even if it’s not in your place of residence.

Is getting an online National Police Clearance faster than getting a local Police Clearance?

Yes, getting a National Police Clearance using the NPCS is faster than getting a police clearance since you can already manage your payment beforehand than lining up at the Treasury Department of your city or municipality.

Either way, you still get your biometrics taken alongside the verification process.

If you choose to get a local Police Clearance from your city or municipal hall, there’s a high chance that other applicants are also there, making you wait longer.

On the other hand, the participating police stations are reserved for those who apply online.

The only drawback is when you are not nearby a police station, so going to your municipal or city hall would be easier.

You can still get a local police clearance in such a scenario since it is also valid.

Is police clearance considered a valid ID?

It can be a valid ID in selected government transactions, as stated by respective agencies.

At best, only a secondary valid ID must be presented in conjunction with other valid IDs.

What if there is a typographical error in my police clearance?

If you have found such an error in your National Police Clearance, you must repeat the application process.

To avoid this, thoroughly check the information you provided during the application process.

Can I renew my National Police Clearance?

No, you cannot renew your National Police Clearance like a shortcut in getting a new one.

You need to repeat the application process and undergo the biometrics capture and verification process.

What is the validity of my police clearance?

Like most related documents, your National Police Clearance has only validity of 6 months.

After that period, you need to apply again if you need an updated one.

Is the National Police Clearance equivalent to NBI Clearance?

No, the two are different, and you cannot use a Police Clearance instead of an NBI clearance or vice versa if the requirements for your job or other purposes are requested.

There are separate applications for the Police Clearance and NBI Clearance, and they are usually both requested for job applicants even if the verification process is essentially the same.

What is a HIT?

Getting a HIT during the verification process can mean different things, but it’s plainly because your name is in a database maintained by the PNP.

Unlike with the NBI clearance, it will only delay the issuance of your police clearance for a few moments up to a few days while an officer checks the records.

Some examples of the databases are Case Information and Database Management System (CIDMS), Crime Information, Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS), e-Rogue Gallery System, and Wanted Persons Information Systems or e-Warrant.

Because it is extensive, you can be assured that a police clearance is like a quick background check.

If you don’t have a HIT or you have a HIT, but it’s for another person, you will be issued a Clean National Police Clearance with the remark “No record on File.”

Otherwise, you will be getting a Marked Police Clearance with the relevant details after all hits have been verified, unless you need to be arrested.

Can I avail of expedited issuance of National Police Clearance?

There is no such thing as expedited or assisted issuance of police clearance.

Beware of fixers who might offer such clearances in exchange for payment, be it cheaper or more expensive than the actual fees.

If you encounter such offers, report them immediately to the authorities and not patronize the service as your clearance will not be valid.

Conclusion

Getting an online police clearance is straightforward, and you can process it instantly.

It allows requesting authorities such as employers to ensure that the workplace is safe.
